All pupils who wish to audition for pantomimes or other shows, will be expected to know some Tap.

Tap dance emphasises intricate footwork and expression of rhythm through sound. The metal plates attached to the bottom of the shoes creates a percussive rhythm which can either accompany music, or be used as an instrument itself. Tap classes at Whiteside’s School of Dance consist of basic tap dancing skills to warm up and strengthen the ankles and progresses through tap steps into tap combinations. Tap dance is terrific for developing coordination, agility and a sense of timing and rhythm. From beginners of all ages up to Intermediate, students learn the ISTD syllabus. For some students there is the possibility of taking the tap examinations.
