The Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD) is one of the world’s leading dance examinations board.

Including Ballet, Modern and Tap, they cover the full spectrum of genres and for more than 100 years they have provided training for dance teachers and examiners, enabling them to enter their students for examinations, develop new techniques and spread the joy of dance.

As a registered educational charity, the ISTD’s mission is to educate the public in the art of dancing in all its forms, to promote knowledge of dance, to provide up-to-date techniques for their members, and to maintain and improve teaching standards. They support and train their members through a wide variety of updated teaching syllabi and techniques upon which to train dancers for the profession.

At Whiteside’s School of Dance, our dance teachers are ISTD qualified and highly experienced in the syllabi of each discipline. We are able to teach the recognised techniques of professional dancing in a variety of disciplines, thoroughly preparing students for their examinations and professional careers ahead. Proper methods are important in any physical activity and dance is no exception. The proper techniques are important to avoid injury and of course to look your best!
